Description
The Master of Science HES-SO (MSc) in Life Sciences focuses on the technological and scientific aspects of the fields of health, food technology and the environment. This MSc follows directly on from the Bachelor of Science (BSc).
National co-operation partners HES-SO (Fribourg, Lullier, Changins and Sion campuses), ZFH (Zürcher Fachhochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften, ZHAW; Wädenswil), BFH (Schweizerische Hochschule für Landwirtschaft; SHL; Zollikofen), FHNW (Hochschule für Life Sciences; Muttenz).
This is a national-level course, with the general core subjects and extended theoretical basics taught centrally (Berne; Spiez). This cooperation enables students to exchange their professional experiences and expand their personal networks. The theory courses relating to specialisations and the research work (master’s thesis) are undertaken at the institution which houses the relevant MRU (Master’s Research Unit).
Description of the modules
- Entrepreneurial core subjects (12 ECTS credits to be chosen from 20, centralised block weeks, a total of 3 one-week modules in Spiez, surcharge for accommodation, breakfast and lunch, at CHF 350.00 per module).
These courses develop the skills and knowledge at the interface between technology and the socio-economic context. Further information >>
- Extended theoretical basics (18 ECTS credits to be chosen from 33; centralised courses of 2 days per week)

- Specialisations (20 ECTS credits; taught using a variety of teaching methods at the different campuses)
This part of the course prepares students for the completion of their master’s thesis.
- Master’s thesis (40 ECTS credits; undertaken on campus, in industry or with a public institution)

The MSc HES-SO in Life Sciences is internationally recognised, and opens up improved employment perspectives at higher levels of responsibility compared with the BSc, in
