Registration fee, course fees and study expenses

When registration is confirmed for one of the HES-SO courses, the student must pay the registration fee, the course fees and, for certain degree courses, contribute to the study expenses. Students must also take out the insurance policies required by the Swiss Confederation.

  • The registration fee* is CHF 150.00, around € 100.
  • The course fees* are CHF 1'000.00, equal to around € 670, per year. The Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne has special terms and condition, please contact the school for details.
  • The colleges may charge for contributions to the study expenses for certain specific services (course documents, equipment and materials, etc.).

    * sum fixed by the strategic committee of the HES-SO

Remarks

  • The costs linked to studies (books, occasional course-related travel expenses, various expenses and reports etc.) should be accounted for in each student’s personal budget.
  • In addition to these are the costs of accommodation, food, health care, clothing, transport and leisure activities.

A survey by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on the social situation of students in Switzerland in 2005 showed that the average monthly expenditure amounts to CHF 1,650.00, with an average budget of CHF 1,300.00 for students living with their parents and CHF 1,900.00 for students living away from the parental home.

16% of students make up their income from grants, allowances or student loans.

Financial assistance: grants, allowances and student loans

Various types of public and private financial assistance are available and may be granted, on application, to Swiss students or those from abroad living in Switzerland in order to follow a course of study, or those who go abroad within the scope of student mobility (study visits and exchanges).

Points to note
Payment of the registration fee is compulsory for the validation of registration on a course of study.
Bodies which award grants for following an initial course of study and those for study visits abroad are not the same!
It generally takes some time to obtain a grant. It is therefore advisable to arrange this in advance.
