The procedures are as follows:
- In agreement with your own establishment, contact the person responsible for mobility in the college in which you are interested.
- In consultation with your establishment and the HES-SO college, draw up the programme of study to be followed during your period in Switzerland (courses or modules, duration, period, number of credits, equivalence, specific conditions or prerequisites, etc.).
- Validate your programme by completing the study contract and ensuring it is signed by your establishment, the HES-SO college and yourself.

Before your arrival you should complete the following formalities:
After obtaining the agreement of the HES-SO, find out from the Swiss Embassy in your country about the formalities for entering Switzerland. Addresses of Swiss diplomatic missions worldwide
You should also obtain proof that you have sufficient financial means to pay for your stay in Switzerland.
After your arrival in Switzerland, you should apply for a residence permit from the cantonal department of foreign affairs (Police des étrangers). Applications are made in the canton where the college is located!
The documents below must be produced at the time of the application:
- valid passport, where appropriate endorsed with a visa
- confirmation of admission by the UAS
- proof that you have sufficient financial means for the duration of your studies (bank reference or other certified document)
- proof of a fixed address in Switzerland
You should consult your health insurance provider to find out whether you are insured for your stay abroad, or take out health insurance cover in Switzerland. Health insurance for students from abroad.
Do not forget to register your arrival with the canton authority.

| Students from abroad are authorised to work for a maximum of 15 hours per week, provided that this does not prolong the duration of their studies in Switzerland. |

| The University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) is made up of numerous colleges, spread over 7 cantons. Take the time to find out about the canton where you will be staying. |
Some cantons may impose additional conditions, or waive some. In the canton of Fribourg, students from the countries of the European Union may be exempt from having to take out health insurance if they hold a European form E128 (obtained from their insurance provider).
