The procedures are as follows:
- Contact the person responsible for mobility in your college (the information you will be asked for varies from college to college: your curriculum vitae, covering letter, letter of reference, etc.).
- Choose the university where you wish to spend your exchange period and contact the person(s) concerned (lecturers, professors, ECTS coordinator, principal, etc.).
- In consultation with your college/site and the host establishment, draw up the programme of study to be followed during your stay (courses or modules, duration, period, number of credits, equivalence, specific conditions or prerequisites, etc.).
- Validate your programme by completing the study contract and ensuring it is signed by the originating establishment, the host establishment and yourself.
- At the end of your study period you should have the summary of marks validated by the host establishment; this will provide proof of the courses followed and the marks obtained.

| Points to note |
| Above all, mobility means undertaking a study period abroad, or at another Swiss university or college. A move between two different HES-SO sites offering the same subject area is not mobility as provided by the Bologna Declaration. |
| The study contract is a very important aspect of an exchange. It not only guarantees that the establishments have given their agreement to this exchange, but also that on your return you will have recognition of the courses followed and the credits acquired on this exchange! |
| Financial assistance is available in the form of loans, allowances or study grants. Make sure you know of all the possibilities! | |
